The Whole of Us

A poetic symphony of Autism, ADHD, and PDA

From left to right: Autism, PDA and ADHD characters.

We didn’t know for thirty-seven years—

Just thought we were too much.

Too quiet, too loud, too stubborn, too weird,

Too full of feelings, or out of touch.

The world gave us labels we never fit.

Selfish. Bossy. Sensitive. Dramatic. Cold.

But none of them held the truth of it—

We were never broken. Just not told.

Now we know.

Now we see.

Neurodivergent, beautifully three:

Autism, ADHD, and PDA—

Different minds, here to stay.

Autism brings the structure, the care,

The depth, the truth, the steady stare.

You see the patterns others miss,

You keep the peace when storms persist.

ADHD brings the colour and fire,

The bold ideas that never tire.

You dance with words, chase butterflies,

Lift us up when the spirit dies.

PDA, our rebel heart—

You won’t be boxed; you play it smart.

You fight for freedom, fierce and true,

You’re the voice that says, “We matter too.”

We’re not a disorder of the mind,

Not “split,” not broken, or behind.

We just have a different kind of brain,

One that processes things differently,

We refuse to feel ashamed.

We notice what others often miss.

We care about fairness, truth, and bliss.

We feel things more deeply. We react with fire.

Our desire to change the world will never tire.

Tired of masking, we want to be whole,

So if you don't like it, please take a stroll.

We’re not here to blend—

We’re here to live rebelliously and transcend.

—— Author’s Note:

“The Whole of Us” is a love letter to the parts of myself I was taught to hide. For 37 years, I internalised shame, believing I was “too much” or “not enough” in all the wrong ways. This poem marks the end of that narrative.

Each stanza gives voice to Autism, ADHD, and PDA as distinct yet beautifully interconnected parts of my neurodivergent identity. It honours the structure and depth of Autism, the energy and creativity of ADHD, and the fierce autonomy of PDA. These are not disorders to fix—they are the truest expressions of how I move through the world.

This piece was written not just as personal healing, but as a rallying cry for others who are tired of shrinking themselves to fit a world that misunderstands them. It’s about integration, liberation, and finally seeing yourself as whole.
