Love and Rebellion

A poetic response to Autism and ADHD

By Neurospicy Poems

PDA character.
PDA character.

Oh, Autism—

You forgot someone.

"Nobody puts Baby in the corner",

I’m the whole bloody firework display

you can’t switch off.

You like things planned,

tidy, sensible, calm.

You want to keep me in check,

tick boxes, write lists,

But the second you say,

“It’s now time to do the really important task,”

I’m there raising a middle finger.

ADHD wants to leap.

You want to pause.

Me?

I want to do neither—

unless I came up with the idea myself.

You say, “Eat healthy.”

I say, “Let’s binge the entire fridge.”

You say, “Get an early night.”

I say, “Watch TikToks until dawn."

You say, “Let’s keep the peace."

I say, "Let’s burn the bridges to the ground!"

I don’t like being told what to do—

even by you.

Even when you’re right.

Especially then.

Call me defiant.

Call me unreasonable.

I call it protecting my freedom

with a flaming sword

and a big "No thanks."

I say no to all the rigid rules!

I’m the “Why?”

you can’t quite answer.

“No, I won’t calm down.”

I’m not your shadow,

I’m your spark.

The queen of contradiction,

dressed in chaos and crown.

But I give you steel

when the world thinks you’re soft.

I give you thunder

when they only expect sunshine.

I have a vulnerable side,

But I’ll never ask for help!

You call me difficult—

but I know I’m the one

who keeps you wild

and unherdable.

A bit of a pain, sure.

But deep down,

you know I’m a bloody superpower

waiting to be harnessed.

On my terms.

Obviously.

Author’s Note:

“Love and Rebellion” gives voice to the demand-avoidant spirit inside me—that fierce, untameable energy that refuses to be boxed in, even by the other parts of myself. It’s a love letter and a rebellion cry all at once: a conversation between PDA and Autism (with ADHD in the mix), capturing the clash, the chaos, and the deep interdependence that lives between us.

Where Autism seeks order and calm, PDA brings fire and resistance. Where ADHD leaps, PDA asks, “Why should I?” It’s not about being difficult—it’s about protecting autonomy, identity, and emotional safety in a world full of invisible pressures.

This poem honours the voice in me that can’t comply—even with good intentions. She questions everything. She flips tables. She wears the crown of contradiction proudly. But underneath that defiance is fierce love: for truth, for freedom, and for the parts of us that would otherwise stay small and silenced.

This isn’t just a poem—it’s a manifesto. PDA isn’t about disobedience for the sake of it. It’s a survival instinct that demands respect and trust. And when understood, it becomes a superpower of intuition, creativity, and raw authenticity.

So here she is—flaming sword in hand. Not your shadow. Your spark. —— Copyright and Usage Notice
