Patchwork Conversations

A tribute to neurodivergent connection

From left to right: Autism and ADHD characters.

I love a good info dump—

a table full of patchwork truths,

laid out like treasures at a makers’ market.

Forget the weather,

and the awkward “how are yous.”

Tell me the things that really matter—

like your obsession with diamond art

or your latest IBS flare-up.

That’s it—I’m in!

No need for neurotypical etiquette.

We don’t do pleasantries here.

It’s not polished or polite.

It’s a quilt of vivid ideas,

stitched with infinite possibility

and handmade honesty.

Our conversation weaves

like a wicker basket—

no planned pauses,

just free-flowing,

interconnected thoughts,

a craftsmanship without rehearsal.

And yet,

every tangent makes perfect sense.

It’s a beautiful handicraft

in its own right.

So, let’s set up our stall—

wow each other with our special delights,

past traumas and medical history,

and build an artisan market

of interruptions and me-toos,

while bathing in the shared joy

of being

entirely too much—

and gloriously inappropriate—

together.

—— Author’s Note

This poem is about the joy and relief of finding people who speak my language, the unfiltered, tangential, deeply honest kind of conversation that often gets misunderstood in neurotypical spaces.

For me, connection has never come from small talk or surface-level exchanges. It’s built from shared passions, raw truths, and those “too much” moments that others might find strange or intense. When I info dump, it isn’t oversharing; it’s offering a piece of myself. When someone joins in, following every leap and tangent with matching curiosity, it feels like home.

Patchwork Conversations is my love letter to that kind of belonging, to the messy, handmade, neurodivergent way of being together that feels so much more real than polite perfection ever could.

Voices speaking:

• Autism – craving depth, truth, and meaningful connection

• ADHD – leaping from topic to topic with excitement and joy

• PDA – rejecting social rules and scripted etiquette

• True Self – celebrating authenticity and human connection without filters
